Qijiagou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Qijiagou, 20 km southwest of Urümqi, Xinjiang. It was named by Wang Hengsheng in 1954.
Lithology and Thickness
Sandstone, Limestone and Volcaniclastics. Neritic terrigenous clastic rock, carbonate rock, pyroclastic rock and tuffaceous clastic rock, intercalated with intermediate volcanic lava. At Qijiagou, it is dominated by gray-purple to yellow-green pebbly greywacke, calcareous sandstone, sandstone-conglomerate, conglomerate, siltstone, gray to dark-gray limestone, organic limestone, crystalline limestone and sandy limestone, intercalated with minor andesite porphyrite and tuffaceous sandstone-siltstone. Exposed thickness 452 m.

Conformable contact with the overlying Aoertu Fm

Contains Corals Multithecopora, Sinopora, Neomultithecopora, Lophophyllidium, Amplexus, Timania, Syringopora, Amplexocarinia, Cyathocarinia, Caninophyllum, Paracaninia and Caninia; Brachiopods Orthotetes, Echinoconchus, Martinia shansiensis, Buxtonia juresanensis, Choristites mosquensis, C. jigulensis and Neospirifer tegulatus; Fusulinids Fusulina sp. and Beedeina, as well as bryozoans, stromatoporas, trilobites, bivalves, gastropods, plant fragments, etc.

It is interpreted as a neritic clastic-carbonate facies with volcaniclastics.
